Giving Birth To Your Future - Lifestyle Articles - Love Ambassadors Ministries

by Pastor Andrew Okwe

We are in a world crowded with different classes of individuals. Each class moves with its unique background and experiences. Their perceptions of life and interpretation of the future are distinct. There is the rich class who sees life as a bed of roses and the future as blissful. The poor interprets life as full of struggles, the future as heavy clouds void of rain. As a matter of fact, there is no such word as future for the frustrated and the embittered. Now, that is the natural man trying to be real.

Generally, man has a way of attaching meaning to life on the basis of what he can see and physically relate to. For instance, the man with no cash in his bank account believes and accepts he is poor, and part of the unfortunate masses, and may have little or no chance of ever having a desired future.

So many have settled for a life of mediocrity. A lot more are living for survival and not for a future, deeply wallowing in self pity. But I bring you a good tiding. Life can be better than this! What I am about to share with you has nothing to do with your qualifications, background, gender and all. It is possible to get rid of the past, to refuse to meander in the maze of mediocrity and live for a bright and glorious future.

This glorious life can only be found and lived in Christ Jesus. We must also understand that it is God’s will for us to have a blissful future. God shows us in Jeremiah 29: 10

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29: 10 (NIV)

To be ignorant of this truth is to live for your past and not the future God intends for you to have. We must be ready to equip ourselves with knowledge and take necessary steps needed to live life the way God has designed it for us.

The future we so desire can become for us a reality. The word of God shows us clearly how to do this.

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it... Isaiah 43: 18-19

From this verse, we can draw out the following steps to birthing your future.

1. FORGET YOUR PAST ... Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
You may have been kept where you are today because you are still holding onto your past – past hurts, failures, disappointments, even successes, victories, etc. Nursing your past can keep you from moving higher and getting closer to seeing the fulfilment of what God has prepared for you in life. In the book of Philippians 3:13, Apostle Paul shows us one of his greatest secrets in life.

But this one thing I do, forgetting those things, which are behind...

Stop nursing those hurts. Celebrate your successes and let them be past. Tell yourself: I have no regrets because my past is redeemed. Jesus has paid for it and He redeemed all I was and did in the past with His blood. Why should I still hold onto a debt that has been paid for?

Erase from your mind and vocabulary every ‘I was’. Allow God’s word to renew your mind. Get to see and confess of yourself as God sees and says of you. God says, “you are a new creation,” and “old things have passed away.” He also says to you, “all things have become new.” 2 Cor 5:17. Always say “I am.” Your life today is not a continuation of your past. Learn to live in the newness of life everyday!

2. LOOK AHEAD ... Behold...

A lot of people may have taken decisions to drop their past, but at the same time may be battling with decisions to detach from information or company that held them captives for years. As long as you keep feeding yourself with things that awaken your past, you will remain there; you have to make a complete u-turn. The scripture says, BEHOLD! Look ahead for the right things. Quit looking at those things that describe your future by what has happened in the past. Behold your future rather, through God’s word.

What has God said in His word concerning your future? Keep looking at it and refuse to see otherwise. As you constantly behold it, you will eventually become who God says you are.

But we all, with open faces beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord are changed into the same image from glory to glory; even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Cor 3: 18

3. CONCEIVE THE SEED ... Shall ye not know it...

When you persevere in beholding the truth, it won’t be long before you get pregnant with a seed of vision. You will of course agree with me that no pregnancy has ever taken place without a conception. You cannot actually give birth to a great future without conceiving the seed of such future.

According to the parable of the sower, as recorded in Luke 8: 14-15, Jesus likened the SEED TO THE WORD, and our hearts to the soil. To conceive means to take in. So we can say that when you keep beholding God’s word with an open and ready heart, a time comes when the seed (the word) you need at the moment drops into your spirit. You begin to receive light as you give in to meditation. It usually comes with deep conviction. Dreams are yet dreams until your heart receives a deep conviction to live for them. The one who brings forth a child is the one who is heavy with a seed.

4. TRAVAIL ... Now it shall spring forth...

Now it is time to push forth what you’ve been heavy with. Those ideas, dreams, and visions you have conceived will only come forth through a process of productive travailing.

To travail means ‘to labour until what is expected is brought forth.’

Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall the nations be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. Isaiah 66: 8

Labour persistently in prayers until there is a confirmation of the unseen in the now. Work smartly and very hard (from the standpoint of rest) until your visions and ideas leave the paper unto reality. Remember, a vision is not fulfilled overnight. It thrives on faith and patience. You must have the tenacity and strength to put forth your seed. The Lord will impart unto you the divine strength you need for this. For He will make provision for every of His visions.

Finally, you must resolve to take corresponding action according to divine inspiration.

Take that step. Make the contacts, pay that debt, start now, and from where you are now, expand your horizon and enlarge your coast. Decide to partner with God. He is committed to bringing you to the expected end.

Great and glorious is your future! Amen!
